A quiet week for local legislation, with no bills passed; five federal measures cleared committee and head toward a House floor vote.
Nothing crossed the finish line this week at the county, state, or federal level that directly changes your day-to-day life in Brown County. The action worth watching is all ahead of us, and it's almost entirely in Washington.

Digital skills passport for job seekers. HR 8183 cleared committee and is headed to a House floor vote, though no firm date is set. If it passes and becomes law, Wisconsin could apply for federal grants to build a system where your work history, education, and skills live in one digital record you control, and employers can search it. Cormorant population management. HR 8195 also cleared committee and awaits a House floor vote. It would require the Interior Department to write regional rules within one year giving Wisconsin's state wildlife agency, tribal governments, and licensed lake and pond managers the authority to reduce cormorant numbers. For Brown County residents who fish Green Bay or inland lakes, fewer cormorants could mean healthier fish populations. No vote date has been set.
Several other federal bills cleared committee this week and are headed toward a House floor vote with no dates confirmed. HR 4598 directs interest payments owed to three New Mexico tribal water settlement funds (the Navajo Nation, Taos Pueblo, and Aamodt Settlement Pueblos) covering 2009 through 2022. HR 8483 transfers roughly 847 acres of federal land in California to the Barona Band of Mission Indians. HR 9785 funds feasibility studies for three rural water systems in South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska. None of these directly affect Brown County residents, and no vote dates are scheduled.
