You may get a bill for vacant property fees. If you own a property listed as vacant between August 2025 and May 2026, the city will bill you for the cost of managing that registration; the city council will vote on the final amount in October 2026.
Abandoned buildings stay on the city's radar longer. By tracking and charging fees for vacant properties, the city creates an incentive for owners to sell, repair, or occupy empty buildings rather than let them sit unused.
Owners of truly abandoned properties may face bills. Property owners who inherited or lost track of vacant buildings will still owe registration fees, even if they did not actively register the property themselves.
